Having “failed” in the past to direct all three “Lethal Weapon” movies — seeing his attempts to move from directing with Mel Gibson in the “Apocalypto” to a shooting a “Lethal Weapon” film and “Lethal Weapon 4” — the Australian actor is rejoining the franchise in its upcoming fifth outing.
Fox also revealed Wednesday that “Point Break” actor Ronda Rousey has joined the cast as the actress who plays one of Luke’s, played by Damon Wayans Jr., love interests.
“I’m getting ready to start writing now,” Mel Gibson said in a Fox interview announcing the project. “It’s going to be a very physical film.”
Readers: Do you know the story behind the film? The script was co-written by Anthony Bagarozzi, who is based in Los Angeles, the same city where the first “Lethal Weapon” film was shot — making Bagarozzi the world’s first to be associated with all three “Lethal Weapon” films.
According to an interview the Los Angeles Times conducted with Bagarozzi last year, he helped to hatch the series of events that led to the continuation of the franchise.
